It has been a fun packed beginning of Sports Week at Bearnes!
The children have thoroughly enjoyed their Wake Up Shake Sessions first thing in the morning and it has been lovely to see some of the parents also attending! It would be great to see a few more of you for the rest of the week.
Monday, the whole school celebrated the official opening of Bearnes’ new playground. Mrs Dunford (CEO) and Mr Calcutt (Executive Principle) of The Link Academy both attended to celebrate the special event. The whole playground has undergone a massive transformation over the year thanks to thanks to the government P.E. grant, Awards for All and Tesco’s Kingsteignton Ground Force Grants.
The children are now able to enjoy a wide range of equipment including a new climbing wall, log weavers, climbing forest and an activity trail along with other games for the children to use during their playtimes and P.E. lessons.
Tuesday, was even more sports filled, next year’s Redwoods had some playleader training all morning in preparation for running activities during break and lunchtime for the younger children next year. Mr Flint was very impressed by their efforts and he is keen to see them develop their leadership skills.
We were very lucky to be joined by Si Yan’s father who showed us a simple healthy chinese meal that the children thoroughly enjoyed ‘it’s really tasty and there’s no salt in it!’
In Chestnuts we created some persuasive adverts to persuade people to eat healthily. I think we all want to eat some of the ‘delicious magic mato!’
Tuesday Afternoon, we were joined by Black Flag Wing Chun Master David Morgan to run some taster sessions with some of the children in Chestnuts, Sycamores and Redwoods. The children learnt some basic blocks and even got to do some kicks. WOW!
Throughout the rest of Sports Week, the children will be taking part in a variety of activities including KS1 Olympic Day, The Daily Mile, a bike and scooter session for Oaks and Sycamores, Wake Up Shake Up, kabadi, yoga and the week will finish with Bearnes’ Sports Day on Friday afternoon at the Cricket Field starting at 1pm please come along to help support the children in all of their races!
