Welcome to Acorns & Oaks
A warm welcome to our class page.
The children in the Early Years Foundation Stage are encouraged to learn through play and exploration, through being active, creative and thinking critically. The staff aim for the children to be inspired by their experiences; motivated by stimulating environments and equipment; fully engaged in their learning and, ultimately, to be empowered to continue to explore and learn themselves, independently. This is managed through carefully planned lessons and activities and opportunities for adult-led and adult- directed sessions as well as ample opportunity for child-initiated learning.

What to Expect, When?
Phonics and Reading at Bearnes Primary School.
We follow the letters and sounds phonics scheme in Oaks.
Below is an outline of how the scheme progresses through the phases and the decodable and ‘Tricky’ words taught.
Acorns and Oaks are a fabulous class full of motivated, friendly and hard working children. We enjoy a lively environment where children are inquisitive and keen to explore. Children are encouraged to talk about their learning and we begin on an exciting learning journey. We are always reflecting on our ‘next steps’ and considering how we can squeeze the learning out of every opportunity. Children talk about how they are learning through our Achievosaurs.
Our teacher in Acorns and Oaks is Mrs Kelly Yeo. She will lead our Early Years Unit supported by our pre-school leader Mrs Seddon, Teaching Assistant Miss Gratton and Higher Level Teaching Assistant and Language Link specialist, Mrs Sutton. Mrs Malpas teaches in this class on a Thursday when we enjoy some super hands-on learning!
Things to remember
PE takes place on a Monday and Thursday. A PE kit must be in school every day.
Reading takes place throughout the week. Library and reading books will usually be changed on a Friday.
Home learning packs (Achievosaur Packs) are available to borrow on Monday and Friday mornings, these packs come with questions and activity ideas for you and your child.
Tapestry is our online learning journal system, if you have any questions about this please come and see Mrs Yeo.
Learning in Acorns and Oaks
For weekly updates of all the amazing things happening in Acorns and Oaks please see our weekly newsletter or our regular updates on our Facebook page.
Many of the parents attended our workshop on Tapestry which is our online learning journal. The children’s ‘wow’ moments of learning will be shared on this platform and this also allows you to add your own observations and comment on the photos, videos and text we have added. We hope that this will give you a really clear knowledge of your child’s development.
