Team Chestnuts had a fantastic world book day, with incredible costumes and great fun!
After an assembly introducing the day, we set off straight away for Waterstones and WHSmiths with our £1 book tokens primed ready to collect a special world book day edition of Where’s Wally, Pepper Pig or new stories from renowned authors David Walliams and Jacqueline Wilson.
The children were quite a sight walking down through Newton Abbot high street and many passers by commented on the amazing costumes and sensible behaviour of the children.
After returning to school, the children enjoyed an Enormous Crocodile themed Treasure Hunt that put their mathematical skills to the test including estimating, measuring, comparing volume as well as addition and subtraction.
At different parts of the day a bell would sound, which signalled stop, drop and read where the children would stop what they were doing and begin reading their favourite book.
After lunch the children were very excited to have the teachers read to them from one of Roald Dahl’s many, many books Enormous Crocodile, Matilda, George’s Marvellous Medicine, Giraffe Pelly and Me, The Twits and James and the Giant Peach.
In the afternoon, Team Chestnuts were introduced to their new Literacy unit which will focus on The Enormous Crocodile and to really get us excited we created our own leaves for our classroom door with the Enormous Crocodile as the theme.
The school day ended with a special assembly in front of the parents telling them all about their exciting day.
It has been a fabulous, I know the children thoroughly enjoyed it!
